Leica 50mm f3.5 Elmar (Type II) (Red Scale) (ELMAR) - Lens

Manual focus normal collapsible lens made for LTM M39 thread mount 35mm rangefinder cameras by Leica starting in 1951. The 50mm f3.5 Elmar was the first standard lens made for the Leica system. It underwent many changes during its production, from its initial computation in 1923 to the end of production in 1959. This Type II version of the lens, codeword ELMAR, was introduced in 1951 at serial number 905.000 and uses a new optical formula. It is recognized by a noticeably flatter curvature of the front element. This particular lens is an early production unit and has the depth-of-field scale painted red.
